THE EFFECTS OF MARIJUANA
The THC in marijuana exerts its effect upon the mind of the user. It is this effect that the pot smoker seeks. When high, he experiences a sense of well-being and a dreamy state of relaxation in which he is unconcerned about personal problems. The other chemical compounds in marijuana produce various effects upon the body. The heart rate increases, blood vessels dilate, and blood pressure drops. There is increased hunger and a craving for sweets. The above cartoon was drawn by a young man who committed suicide. The artist accurately captured in his drawing the appearance of the bloodshot, sleepy-looking eyes that identify the regular pot smoker.
