JUNKIE TATTOOS

Tattoo montageOccasionally we see a revealing tattoo that brands the wearer as a long-term heroin addict.  In these pictures, the syringes are not hypodermic syringes, but are eyedroppers with attached needles.  The confirmed addict prefers the eyedropper because, by squeezing the rubber bulb, he has better control of the flow of heroin into his veins.  In this way, he can carefully regulate the rush and high the drug produces.

The heroin addict is said to "have a monkey on his back."  The marijuana leaf illustrates the importance of gateway drugs in the process of addiction.  The tattoos at right refer to opium smoking in China years ago.
